Competence vs. Inferiority
In the stage competence vs. inferiority, children begin to read and right. Occurring from the ages of 6 to puberty, children start to do things on their own by learning from their teachers. Many children look to their friends to see what is wrong or right. Needing to win approval by family and friends, many children will change themselves to fit into that perfect mold. If the child’s actions are encouraged then the child will feel confident, however if they are not encouraged then the child will feel incompetent.
I realized at a very early age that I was not good at soccer. I hated everything about the sport because it made me feel inferior and that I wasn’t good enough. I then came to the realization that I was good at being girly and was rewarded for it. I started focusing my attention on people who were as girly as I was. I loved getting my hair/nails done at Libby Lou and helping my mom cook dinner. I also worked really hard in school, even though I didn’t always receive the greatest grades. I often met with tutors that would help me in English and Math. My teachers also had a really big impact in my life because I spent lots of time with them and they taught me many skills (addition and multiplication).
